See the World on a Ship
There is nothing quite like being out on the water. While seasickness does strike from time to time, dramamine notwithstanding, the overall feeling of the humid air and the rocking of the boat makes the experience one that everybody should have at some point in their life. And it really does not matter whether you are taking a cruise in a huge ship out on the ocean (possibly on a transatlantic cruise across a couple of thousand miles), or if you are just going a hundred miles or so on a 2 day cruise down a river somewhere. The effect is pretty sweet, as you watch what seem like snapshots of a world you’re passing by.
Usually, there are plenty of things to do aboard a cruise ship of any stripe. Even the small ones tend to have some pretty good ways to occupy your time and have a little fun between the really memorable sites out there. And the really large ones are almost like floating cities, where just about anything you might like to do is taken care of and available for your enjoyment. So really, no matter how you like to get down, a cruise is pretty much a one size fits all type of vacation.
But just like everything else in life, you want to get a good deal on your cruise package. After all, the less you spend on the cruise itself, you more money you will have left over to buy all of the “cruise goodies” you will want to take home with you – cheap shirts that cost more than most designer labels, coffee mugs that you’ll lose or accidentally break within a few months, that sort of thing. So you really need to shop around, to find the very best of the cruise deals.

Iceland’s Volcano Ash Cloud Could Create More Cruise Deals
As if the tourism industry wasn’t hurt enough by the recent economic downturn, Iceland’s volcanic eruption caused even greater problems that prevented travelers from reaching their destinations on time. The negative effects of high airline prices and disruptions in service, however, could be good news for people looking for cheap cruises. As the airline industry falters, several cruise companies are stepping in to fill the gaps.
Changing Travel Plans
When the volcanic ash cloud made it impossible for people to travel in the UK by air, many people discovered the joys of traveling with Brittany Ferries. Brittany Ferries may have suffered in the past from a bit of a misnomer. They have much more in common with cruise ships than the typical ferry boat. In fact, many of them offer gourmet cuisine, movie theaters, and cabins that offer significantly more comfort than an airplane seat. As more and more people turned to these “ferries” to get where they needed to go, they found that they really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and excellent amenities.
Cruise Lines Step Up
Although some people expected the number of ferry and cruise bookings to decrease after the volcanic ash cloud dissipated, many companies have found that the improved business has continued. This is especially true of companies that can offer inexpensive cruise deals with comfortable cabins and fun activities. When people see the option of flying in an uncomfortable seat for several stressful hours or relaxing on a luxurious ship, they understandably choose the more relaxing boats. Airplanes have the market cornered when it comes to reaching a certain destination quickly, but many vacationers just want to relax and have a good time. Cruise ships give them the opportunity to get far away from home without having to travel long distances.
